In an exciting collaboration that marries engineering prowess with mixology finesse, British brands CALLUM, British Airways, Bremont, and Mr Lyan have come together to launch a precision-engineered cocktail mixer that promises to redefine the way martinis are crafted. Aptly named the Martini Mixer, this innovative creation has been designed to meticulously stir – not shake – the iconic cocktail, promising unparalleled smoothness and flavour in every sip.

The Martini Mixer is the result of a close partnership between CALLUM, British Airways, renowned luxury watchmaker Bremont, and award-winning mixologist Mr Lyan (Ryan Chetiyawardana). With each brand bringing its expertise to the table, the collaboration has given birth to a stunning and exclusive mixer that epitomises precision engineering and the art of mixology, all aimed at achieving the ultimate martini experience.

The design of the Martini Mixer draws inspiration from aviation and British Airways’ aircraft. The cylindrical form of the mixer, reminiscent of an aircraft engine, is a visual nod to the world of aviation. Crafted from food-grade stainless steel 316 billet, the mixer’s main body encases a borosilicate glass vessel known for its thermal shock resistance – a crucial element for achieving the perfect iced cocktail.

At the heart of the mixer is the ‘turbine,’ the control unit that sets the magic in motion. This unit houses a motor and a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that powers a specialised hollow stainless steel mixing paddle. With meticulous attention to detail, CALLUM’s engineers have calibrated the mixing paddle to rotate at the optimal revolutions per minute (rpm), ranging between 120 to 160 rpm, a range carefully chosen to ensure the cocktail is blended to perfection in less than 15 seconds.

The Martini Mixer’s ingenuity goes beyond its stirring action. The mixer features a magnetic start/stop function, which activates when the turbine is secured atop the combustion chamber. This function initiates the perfected stirring action while also illuminating interior LEDs, allowing users to witness the mesmerising mixing process through a viewing window. The mixer’s sealed turbine houses a rechargeable lithium-ion battery with an impressive run time of 120 minutes, equivalent to around 500 martinis per charge. It can be conveniently recharged via a concealed USB-C port.

Accompanying the Martini Mixer is a stainless steel strainer, designed to match the turbine graphic and ensure a smooth pour every time. The entire ensemble is presented in a bespoke case, including an instruction card guiding users on crafting the ultimate martini.

Originally conceived for British Airways’ exclusive Concorde Room at London Heathrow Terminal 5, the Martini Mixer was crafted to offer travellers a taste of luxury before takeoff. Aptly named the ‘Turbine Martini,’ this exclusive concoction is curated by the airline’s partner mixologist, Mr Lyan, and pairs classic ingredients with a modern twist.

Now, enthusiasts can bring this unique experience home by purchasing their own Martini Mixer, priced at £2,995, pre-orders are currently open with production expected to commence in late 2023 and deliveries scheduled for 2024.

The premium Danish audio brand has announced Beosound Theatre: an innovative and meticulously crafted high-end soundbar and a powerful, immersive multi-product home cinema, all in one single product.

Tech spec

Beosound Theatre comes with 12 speaker drivers, including two custom-made long stroke 6.5” woofers and 800 watts of amplification power, providing up to 112dB sound pressure level. Speech clarity is managed by the custom-made centre channel, where the tweeter is mounted directly in front of the midrange. The alignment of these drivers ensures a better sound distribution elevating the quality audio experience for everyone in the room, while directivity has been designed to optimize speech quality. Beosound Theatre also introduces a new three-dimensional sound directivity. 

Starting with seven built-in outputs and supporting up to 16 external loudspeakers, the soundbar can be the heart of a full-blown Dolby Atmos 7.1.4 surround configuration. In this setup, Beosound Theatre functions as a centre speaker that merges the Dolby Atmos decoding and custom-tuned post-processing with Bang & Olufsen’s proprietary True Image algorithm to maximise the capabilities of all Bang & Olufsen loudspeakers.

Inspired by sailboats 

Beosound Theatre’s keel-like design makes it appear as if it is resting on an aluminium blade, floating in the air as one fluid form. This illusion was artfully created; the middle-extruded profile of the aluminium was polished and anodized with two end caps that were formed into a curved shape and split into four end caps. This enables the curved edge of the product to seamlessly fit the flat profile of the soundbar, creating one unified piece. Its solid oak lamella cover is made by a family-run factory in Denmark and perfectly matches Bang & Olufsen’s family of Beolab speakers. The design means that they can be easily disassembled or replaced, while the fabric version is designed to be a visually softer solution.

This timeless design is paired with a cutting-edge software platform called “Mozart”, which ensures the soundbar can connect seamlessly with products as far back as 1986, creating a cross-generational home audio setup. Because the platform is packed with processing power and memory, Bang & Olufsen can also introduce new features, capabilities, and connectivity over time to ensure an equally seamless experience with home audio settings of the present day – and those in the years to come. 

Built for any TV

Based on the principles of modularity, customers can easily transform the soundbar into a complete wall-mounted or floor standing Bang & Olufsen TV experience, so it blends in perfectly and doesn’t take up more space than an existing TV. Aluminium “wings” are also extendable for customers whose TV screens grow as they upgrade, proving that Beosound Theatre continues to provide perfectly integrated solutions that are future-proofed. The interface bracket is motorized and forms a seamless connection between the stand and the TV screen; a bracket includes a compartment to hide smart TV boxes and excess cables.

Where other systems simply send the bass to the most powerful loudspeaker – usually the subwoofer – Beosound Theatre uses all the loudspeakers in the system to work together as a single unit. This not only gives the maximum potential of the entire system but also helps to control resonance in the listening room, making sure that the various loudspeakers work with, and not against, each other.

Roomsense

The product comes with Bang & Olufsen’s new setup technology, Roomsense. By placing the external microphone at the listening position, Beosound Theatre will work with the Bang & Olufsen App to measure the distance from the listener to the soundbar. But more than this, it will also assign a role for each speaker based on the different placements, carry out sound compensation for each speaker if it is placed free standing, up against a wall or in a corner, as well as overall room compensation to avoid unwanted resonance. 

With Roomsense, everyone can make the perfect setup in a matter of seconds. But just as important, it allows for all kinds of placements of the speakers, so people can decorate their homes as they want – not based on the standard speaker placement.

And Leica has brought these three creative branches together in a strictly limited, special edition compact camera: the Leica D Lux 7 “A BATHING APE® X STASH”. Available via Leica in a black finish and in silver through A BATHING APE®, the special edition features the signature ABC CAMO look of the streetwear label BAPE®, and the brand’s APE HEAD  insignia, marked with the distinctive wildstyle design of US graffiti artist STASH. 

Three cities, three creators

The streetwear label BAPE® (A BATHING APE®) brings Tokyo’s urban street style to an international market, with its contemporary Japanese designs. New York too is famed for its street style and is home to the street-art legend STASH (aka Josh Franklin), whose creations brought the anonymity of subway tunnels into the public eye. Stash – epitomising the youthful spirit of a generation 

The Leica D-Lux 7 was designed by the Brooklyn-based artist, who chose to incorporate both the famously graphic-heavy style of the BAPE® label and his own distinctive visual approach. To mark the launch of the limited-edition Leica D-Lux 7, a selection of photographs by STASH  will be presented in a special exhibition at the Leica Store Los Angeles.  

Stash says of the launch: 

“When I started doing graffiti in the early 1980s, the term ‘street art’ didn’t exist. It was only later, when we emerged from the tunnels and train stations, that we became much more visible.  Documenting my art through photography has always been part of my creativity. With the  advent of digital cameras, I got my first Leica.” Recognising many parallels between the three art forms he continues: “They are visual, based on colour, form and expressive freedom.  I think they are strongly youth-driven, and there is so much creativity between them that one  feeds into the other to help complete the story.” 

Tech spec

The Leica D-Lux 7 “A BATHING APE® X STASH” model matches the technical specifications of the serially produced model. It has a Micro Four Thirds sensor and a fast zoom lens with optical image stabilisation, covering focal lengths from 24–75mm (a 35mm camera equivalent), with an aperture range of f/1.7–2.8. Its lens uses a central portion of the sensor (whose total resolution is over 21 million pixels),  resulting in even higher image quality. In addition to high-res photographs, the sensor also enables 4K 30fps and full-HD 60fps videos. The package comes with an additional carrying strap, a  specially designed camera pouch, and an auto lens cap that opens and closes as the lens retracts and extends.

Panasonic launches their closest, most comfortable shave yet; the NEW Series 900+

Designed to tackle longer, more dense stubble and tricky beards that has arisen from the increase in working from home. Japanese blade technology and Panasonic’s ultra-fast linear motor allows it to cut up to 80% of hairs in just one pass, providing lasting smoothness all day long and even after 8 hours.

The ES-LS9A and the ES-LS6A 

Shown to cut four times trickier, longer, flat-lying hairs in a single pass than the current ES-LV97 5-blade shaver. Series 900+ comes in two different configurations, the ES-LS9A which also includes a dedicated cleaning and charging station; and the ES-LS6A which includes only the shaver itself. Each includes two finish blades, two lift blades and two new thick stubble blades coated with titanium – which are especially effective at catching hairs on the jaw and around the neck. 

Japanese sword steel

The shavers use the same highest-grade stainless steel used for Japanese sword making. All six blades are made using Panasonic’s advanced Japanese blade technology, known for its strength, sharpness and durability. Each of these blades is nano-sharpened to just 30 degrees, creating an angle that keeps the blades close to the hair root. Combining durability and sharpness, it delivers a clean, close and non-irritable shave that eradicates stubble for up to eight hours. The new model also features a pop-up trimmer for pre-shave cutting and styled grooming. 

Reducing skin irritation

With an advanced ultra-fast linear motor, each of the shavers uses mag-lev technology. Using the world’s strongest magnets, the Series 900+ is capable of 84,000 cross-cutting actions per minute. And this ultra-fast speed keeps going, even as the battery begins to deplete, protecting against the kind of skin irritation that can occur when cutting speed declines in standard shavers. A flexible head and floating six-blade construction that moves in 22 independent directions, provides an accurate shave and minimises pressure on the skin, getting the job done quickly and cleanly. As each stroke covers more ground, in a short space of time, the pressure exerted on the skin is reduced by 10% (when compared to the current 5-blade ES-LV67 shaver). 

Premium beard sensor technology

Recognising that every beard is different, Panasonic has created its most responsive beard sensor technology yet. This detects beard density and thickness 220 times per second, adjusting the motor’s power 14 times per second and following the contours of the face by rotating from side to side. 

Minimalistic, stylish and practical

The Series 900+ has a superior design. In matte black with metallic accents, the sculpted, ergonomic shape makes it easy to use, while a multi-LED display shows the battery and operation status at a glance. The ES-LS9A is also equipped with a compact auto cleaning and charging station, activated with the touch of a button.

The new watch pays tribute to Hublot and Ledger’s ethos “Be First, Different and Unique”. An avant-garde package contains three core elements: the watch itself, a limited-edition Ledger Nano X crypto wallet and a stunning sapphire watch box. The watch design is based on the Big Bang Unico, mimicking its 42mm black ceramic case and a skeletonised automatic chronograph in-house movement. This is contrasted by a golden bezel, cast in solid “Electrum”, a natural gold and silver alloy, popular with Lydian societies in around 580-590 BC (the Lydian people also minted the earliest known coins).

Strength in numbers

This new incarnation of alloy contains a 50/50 gold-silver mix. The Bitcoin Latin motto “Vires in Numeris” (strength in numbers), is stamped six times into the bezel’s outer edge – as such, the design brings together the world’s oldest and newest currencies. The Ledger logo is engraved on the case back, along with the 50-piece limited-edition number.

The Big Bang Unico Ledger package includes the Ledger & Hublot Nano X in matte black, adorned with the brand’s logo. This is an exclusive limited-edition crypto-key; the signature digital asset wallet is a market-leading Bluetooth-enabled piece of hardware to encrypt, secure, manage, and grow your crypto assets. Presented in a transparent smoked black sapphire box, this packaging reflects the transparency and security of blockchain and decentralised currency. The casing also pays homage to the traditional vaults and safes of yesteryear.

Raised in Scotland, roused by the Caribbean

Family-owned distiller Glenfiddich has a reputation for adopting revolutionary methods and practices, with a history dating back to the 1800s. The best-selling brand now retails in over 180 countries across the world and has won countless awards and accolades.

Glenfiddich’s 21 Year Old is a traditional Speyside whisky, matured for just over two decades on‐site at the Dufftown distillery. Malt Master, Brian Kinsman, hand picks selected barrels to finish in Caribbean rum casks, infusing notes of ginger, fig, lime, banana and a spicy toffee warmth, to create a unique and exotic spirit.

BlockBar is by contrast a much newer name, having been founded in October 2021. Extended limited edition design

It’s been inspired by the last in the Chinese New Year trilogy. The imagery, designed by illustrator Rlon Wang, creates a sense of endless horizons, possibility and opportunity for this year, in which Glenfiddich’s emblematic Stag takes centre stage. NFTs include access to a JPG of the Wang’s complete artwork, including individual digital illustrations of the icons that make up the overall design. Plus there’s a Golden Stag GIF that can be used to unlock early access to the next Glenfiddich drop.
