In an increasingly rapacious Dubai hotel scene, there are very few properties that not only continue to reign over the hearts and minds of guests but also thrive along the way. Shangri-La Dubai does all that and more with a devotion to detail that is exquisite. Misbaah Mansuri tries it out – read on for the full review

Set The Scene

Stepping into the recently revamped 42-storey sanctuary, I am immediately enveloped by a sense of opulence. The lobby, a grand atrium adorned with majestic Lasvit chandeliers, casts a warm glow over royal burgundy and gold hues that promise a stay fit for royalty. It was love at first sight. The check-in desk featured an intriguing backdrop – a striking art piece composed of hundreds of books in a babel of languages, another fascinating touch. As I lingered, the lounge buzzed with the genteel clink of afternoon tea, while the hum of business deals floated down from the first-floor restaurants. From the golden pillars to the dramatic floral arrangements that crowned them alongside cosy grey armchairs. What I love about this place is that despite its grandeur, there is a comforting familiarity in the air.

The Rooms

Perched between sky and city on the upper echelons of the tower, I stayed in the hotel’s Picture-Perfect Rooms which are a cocoon of luxuriousness offering a cinematic sweep of Dubai’s skyline. My corner retreat comes with floor-to-ceiling windows framing the Burj Khalifa in a tableau so vivid it feels within reach. Plush carpets, a marble-encased bathroom, and a colour palette that whispered luxury in shades of grey and gold set the tone for a sumptuous stay ahead. The pièce de resistance was the Polaroid camera in the room, perfect to capture the sweeping vistas, while the L’Occitane amenities added a touch of Provencal charm to the urban oasis. Meditative colouring postcards provided a moment of zen, inviting me to pause and reflect amid the opulence, alongside the local art in the room that provides a reverent nod to the region. What makes these rooms stand out are their amenities which are a carefully crafted collection to pamper and purify — a Briiv Air Purifier to cleanse the space, silken Yukata robes and slippers, and indulgences like bath salts and hydrating creams to rejuvenate after a day in the city.

Amenities and Facilities

The CHI Spa offers some exhilarating Arabian-inspired spa indulgences that pay homage to the land with local essences of dates, coffee, and rhassoul mud and other signature treatments. The hotel also features health club amenities like the gym, sauna, and plunge pool, among others. Poolside on the fourth floor, the vibe is irresistibly Instagrammable, with chic white sunbeds and vibrant pink towels set against the Burj Khalifa’s backdrop. As night falls, the space transforms into a lively hub, with shisha, music, and a DJ setting the evening’s tone.

Dining

One of our favourite parts of the stay has to be the culinary powerhouse of the property. Hoi An, the Vietnamese gem, dazzled us with its crispy rolls, a delicate crunch giving way to the umami richness of shrimp and shiitake. The curries were a masterclass in balance bursting with robust flavours that have a certain depth to them.

Brunch at Shang Palace became the highlight of my foodie escapades. The crispy prawns, enrobed in mango mayonnaise, were a culinary epiphany, their tender meat ensconced with the sauce’s sweet zestiness. The golden garlic prawns come alive with just the right tinge of spice, igniting the palate without overwhelming it. The fried soft-shell crab was another standout dish, its crisp exterior giving way to the succulent sweetness of the crab within. The gentle heat of the spice brought a depth of flavour that elevated the dish to gold standards, creating an interesting interplay of texture and taste. The Dunes Café presented a breakfast that was a spectacle of choice and quality, think pastries, flaky and golden, fresh smoothies, and a globe-trotting array of hot and cold dishes.  A floating breakfast at Ikandy Ultralounge is the stuff of Instagram dreams and goes heartily recommended!

Final thoughts

At Shangri-La Dubai, luxury is palpable in every little detail, from staff that is genuinely gracious and goes the extra mile to make your day, to restaurants that are true masterclasses in gastronomy. With its old-world charm doused in unmistakable luxury, here is a property that glows from within, even among the ever-expanding empire of Dubai hotels.

From the moment you arrive at Dubai’s newest Address property, its very location weaves a captivating charm. The hotel’s expansive windows frame Dubai’s iconic silver towers, crafting an entrancing skyline that beckons you from the lobby to the elevated Luma Pool Lounge. Yet, beyond the panoramic views, Address Grand Creek Harbour’s allure lies in an inner beauty that harmonises seamlessly with its surroundings. Misbaah Mansuri puts the new property to the test.

Location

In the centre of Dubai Creek Harbour, Address Grand Creek Hotel is located 15 minutes from Downtown Dubai and is within close proximity of the city’s heart. Near the hotel is the newest viewing deck that is open to the public as well as a lovely promenade that follows around the Creek, perfect for a stroll.

Setting the Scene

Stepping into the lobby of Address Grand Creek Harbour itself is a sight to behold. I’m greeted by a sleek marble expanse that exudes elegance, highlighted by a deep emerald-green marble bar and an awe-inspiring crystal chandelier that stretches the length of the space.

The lobby, with its ample plush seating, a freeform crystal chandelier, and floor-to-ceiling windows, offers a chic retreat from the desert sun. Bold flower arrangements complement lively piano music, adding to the overall elegant atmosphere as my very swift check-in followed.

Checking In

The quick check-in experience was incredibly efficient and hassle-free. From the moment I arrived at the hotel, I was impressed by how smoothly the process went. The staff was well-prepared and guided me through the check-in steps swiftly. Within just a few minutes, I had my room key in hand and was on my way to my room. This convenience definitely set a positive tone for my stay, and I appreciated not having to wait in long lines or deal with unnecessary paperwork.

Our Room

In our deluxe room, the allure of Dubai’s waterfront charm unfolds before our eyes in a remarkable way. As we step inside, a world of opulence awaits, where every detail has been meticulously crafted to enhance our experience.

Bathed in the gentle glow of the city’s shimmering skyline, the room’s large windows frame the iconic silver towers, casting an enchanting spell that leaves us mesmerised. We love the white marble bathroom featuring a freestanding bathtub and the king-size bed with crisp linen sheets, so marshmallow-soft that we cannot wait to slip in.

To welcome us in style, the team has adorned our room with a fragrant cascade of rose petals, creating an atmosphere of sheer romance and indulgence. The air is suffused with their delicate fragrance, setting the stage for an unforgettable stay.

As we sink into the plush comforts of our carefully curated furnishings, our gaze naturally drifts to the exquisite welcome amenities that await. A selection of handcrafted macarons, with their vibrant colours and delectable flavours, tempts our senses, offering a delightful taste of Dubai’s culinary artistry.

Resort Amenities and Facilities

The 223 accommodations pamper guests with expansive marble bathrooms featuring separate showers and deep-soaking tubs, ideal for unwinding after a day of exploring. And the hotel’s sparkling infinity pool, surrounded by shaded loungers and cabana-covered daybeds, provides a serene escape with some of the most breathtaking skyline views.

What sets this place apart is its thoughtful design, providing spacious gathering areas like the private Viewing Point bridge that offers Instagram-worthy vistas over the water. The blend of modernity with Middle Eastern charm is evident in the chic spa, while the guest rooms draw inspiration from the harbour’s shimmering blue waters, creating a serene and inviting ambience.

Dining

I had the pleasure of dining at The Restaurant, Address Grand Creek Harbour’s signature dining venue. I highly recommend starting the gastronomic adventure with the Boston lobster bisque, a rich and exquisite delight, followed by the yuzu-marinated yellowtail tuna tartare, which was a burst of refreshing flavours.

The saffron risotto is another must-try. The saffron-infused rice was flawlessly cooked, striking a perfect balance between creaminess and a satisfying bite. Each mouthful was a symphony of flavours, with the saffron infusing a subtle yet distinctive aroma and taste. The saffron risotto was elevated using high-quality ingredients, making it a main course that I savoured with every bite.

But that’s not all; Address Grand Creek Harbour has more culinary surprises up its sleeve. Their Shakshouka is a delightful Middle Eastern adventure. This dish typically features poached eggs in a spicy tomato and pepper sauce, and the one here lived up to its reputation for bold and robust flavours. It was an authentic and delicious experience that I heartily recommend to anyone who appreciates diverse and savoury flavours.

Moving on to breakfast, The Restaurant’s bountiful buffet is an experience in itself, accompanied by breathtaking harbour views. The variety is astonishing, with artisan cheeses paired with an array of local honey and even a build-your-own doughnut bar, making breakfast a delightful and indulgent affair.

When it’s time to unwind poolside, the Luma Pool Lounge offers an idyllic setting. As the day transitions into night, it transforms into a swanky Mediterranean restaurant. I was treated to mouth-watering mezze, perfectly complemented by cocktails and shisha service. It’s a blend of flavours and ambience that’s nothing short of perfection.

For those seeking an elegant touch, the daily afternoon tea at The Patisserie is a must. With a wide selection of international brews served amidst the gentle tinkling of live piano music, it’s a sophisticated and tranquil affair, all while enjoying breathtaking waterfront views.

The Spa

As I step into the serene oasis of the spa, a sense of calm immediately washes over me.

My therapist, with a welcoming smile, guides me to my private sanctuary, where the scent of essential oils hangs in the air, promising relaxation beyond measure. The warm embrace of heated stones on my back starts the journey, melting away tension with each glide. It’s as though the cares of the day are being gently swept away.

The therapist’s skilled hands move with a graceful rhythm, a symphony of kneading and rolling that takes me deeper into relaxation. I find myself surrendering to the moment, the outside world fading into insignificance. The aromatic oils blend seamlessly with the soothing touch, adding another layer of tranquillity.

Minutes slip away unnoticed as I drift into a state of pure bliss. The therapist’s touch seems to intuitively find every knot and ache, coaxing them into submission. Tension is replaced by an overwhelming sense of serenity, and time itself seems to stand still.

As the massage gently comes to an end, I slowly awaken, feeling lighter and more revitalised than I have in a long time. It’s an hour that transcends the ordinary, leaving me with a profound sense of peace and well-being. The spa experience at Address Grand Creek Harbour is nothing short of exceptional, a true escape from the everyday.

Final Thoughts

While the ambience and food of the property is exceptional, what made our stay special was the genuine warmth and hospitality that enveloped the hotel. From giving you a blanket if they see you feeling cold to remembering your favourite coffee, service is thoughtful and heartfelt.

The staff are genuinely gracious and go the extra mile to make your day to restaurants that are true masterclasses in gastronomy, this one is truly like a dream. With its old-world charm ensconced in unmistakable luxury, Address Grand Creek Harbour glows from within, with a lovely golden warmth, a unique quality among the ever-expanding empire of Dubai hotels.

First Impressions

Immediately upon entering the swish address, I found myself immediately captivated by the enthralling blend of contemporary elegance and timeless charm. Situated amidst the effervescent nightlife and bustling business scene of the area, the hotel stands as a serene oasis for both leisure and corporate travellers. The juxtaposition of traditional souks and modern skyscrapers in the vicinity adds an intriguing dimension to the experience.

Whether it’s the allure of historic Dubai or the gleaming skyscrapers that beckon, the Waldorf Astoria offers a vantage point from which to explore both worlds with ease. The Museum of the Future, a true architectural marvel, is a mere 10-minute cab ride away, while the airport’s proximity makes arrival and departure a breeze.

As I wandered through the corridors of the hotel, the design aesthetic evoked the refined sophistication of a mid-century Manhattan apartment, infused with modern sensibilities. Each of the 275 rooms and suites, adorned in warm toffee tones with accents of rose gold, exuded an inviting aura of comfort. The absence of balconies is compensated by the sweeping floor-to-ceiling windows that frame captivating views, ranging from Arabian palaces to the urban panorama.

During my stay, I had the privilege of experiencing the Corner Suite with a skyline view, and from the moment I stepped in, I was enveloped in a world of understated luxury. The suite’s open-plan layout exuded comfort and sophistication, with warm walnut and leather furnishings illuminated by abundant natural light streaming through the floor-to-ceiling windows.

The grand bathroom, complete with a separate shower and bathtub, provided a haven of relaxation. The separate bedroom and living room allowed for both restful moments of solitude and gatherings in style. The meticulous attention to detail, from the leather-clad drinks cabinets to the mid-century-style clock radios, spoke of a thoughtful commitment to blending nostalgia with contemporary opulence.

My comfort was further elevated by the thoughtful amenities provided. A personal concierge service ensured that my needs were met with promptness and care. The convenience of an espresso machine, complimentary WiFi, a minibar, and a safe box added to the seamless experience.

The bathrooms, adorned in sleek grey marble, boasted separate tubs and walk-in showers, complemented by plush Boca Terry robes and luxurious Salvatore Ferragamo toiletries that conjured images of Mediterranean getaways. The indulgence was further enhanced by a delightful array of berries, dried fruits, and chocolates that awaited.

The Food Factor

During my culinary journey at the property’s signature restaurant, Bull and Bear, the dining experiences were nothing short of enchanting. One captivating creation that graced my palate here was the alligator pear, a unique chef’s take on avocado. This dish was a true masterpiece of innovation, where pickled avocado mingled with the vibrant notes of cilantro, while the pop of pomegranate and the delicate crunch of kalamata rice cracker added layers of texture and complexity. The unexpected twist of gazpacho jelly provided a refreshing and tangy contrast, elevating the dish to a symphony of flavours that left me in awe of the chef’s creativity.

Another standout dish was the legendary Bull and Bear Burger. As I took my first bite, I was greeted by an explosion of flavours that danced across my palate. The burger was an ode to succulence, with each bite releasing a burst of juiciness that was masterfully balanced by the harmonious blend of fixings. The careful attention to every element of this creation was evident, and I savoured each mouthful as the burger’s essence unfolded. Our friendly and gracious server Rofi Waqas added a delightful touch to the experience.

Amidst the culinary adventures, I had the pleasure of experiencing the indulgent high tea at Peacock Alley. The atmosphere exudes elegance, with the timeless charm of the surroundings enhancing the anticipation of the culinary delights that await. As I settled in, I was greeted by an array of exquisite treats that were as visually appealing as they were delectable. The meticulously crafted finger sandwiches, delicate pastries, and fragrant teas were a feast for the senses, taking me on a journey of delicate flavours and refined indulgence.

In the heart of Peacock Alley, I found myself immersed in an atmosphere that seamlessly blended tradition with modern luxury. The service was attentive yet unobtrusive, allowing me to relish every moment of the experience. With each sip of tea and every bite of the impeccably prepared delicacies, I felt a sense of timelessness that transcended the moment and created memories that would linger long after.

Breakfast was definitely one of the highlights of the stay here. As I approached the breakfast buffet, the tantalising aroma of shakshouka wafted through the air, inviting me to savour the rich flavours of this Middle Eastern delight. The eggs were perfectly poached, nestled in a bed of tangy tomato sauce and adorned with vibrant herbs. Next to it, the French toast stood as a tempting creation—a golden masterpiece with a crisp exterior and a soft, custard-like centre. Each bite was a medley of textures and flavours, a ceremonious blend of sweetness and indulgence.

The cold options were a revelation, showcasing an array of cuisines from around the world. Yoghurts beckoned with their creamy allure, while dim sums added a touch of Asian flair to the spread. The Indian Corner was a tribute to the rich culinary heritage of the subcontinent, offering an assortment of savoury and aromatic dishes that transported me to the vibrant streets of India. The thoughtfully-created gluten-free corner catered to various dietary needs, ensuring that everyone can revel in a wholesome and satisfying meal.

The cheese selections were a delight for any cheese enthusiast, featuring a variety of textures and flavours that ranged from creamy to sharp. Fresh tarts and almond croissants added a touch of European elegance to the breakfast, promising a flaky and indulgent start to the day. And then, the signature Dubai gold leaf—a shimmering touch of luxury—graced some of the delicacies, an ode to the breakfast glitter served by the property.

What stood out the most were Waldorf Astoria DIFC’s continuous efforts to utilise the freshest produce. Whether it was the burst of sweetness from the fruits or the savoury richness of the dishes, every element of the breakfast exuded quality and attention to detail.

Sun, Spa and Splendour

Interestingly, it was the first time that I was captivated by the thoughtful and imaginative design that extended to the hotel’s meeting spaces. Unlike the usual uninspiring meeting rooms, this hotel surprised me with an open-plan kitchen integrated into the setting. This unique touch infused a sense of creativity and innovation into the meeting experience, creating a space where ideas can flourish in a relaxed and interactive environment.

The gym was another delightful discovery, a space that resonated with the hotel’s elegant aesthetic. Adorned with cutting-edge cardio and weights machines, the gym not only provided an opportunity for a workout but also offered panoramic views of the iconic Dubai skyline. Exercising here felt more like an invigorating journey than a routine, as I was surrounded by the city’s beauty while working up a sweat.

As I stepped outside, the rooftop pool beckoned with its promise of relaxation and breathtaking views. The pool area was a haven of comfort and luxury, adorned with birdcage swinging chairs that added a touch of whimsy. The sun loungers, complete with deep mattresses that resembled single beds, invited me to bask in the sun and unwind. It was the perfect spot to immerse myself in the tranquillity of the surroundings and soak in the warmth of Dubai’s climate.

One of the highlights was my spa exploration at the ravishing couple’s treatment room. The room exuded a sense of intimacy and luxury, with two unique heated quartz sand massage beds that beckoned with their warmth and comfort. The therapeutic hydrotherapy bath added an element of blissful indulgence, setting the stage for an unforgettable spa journey.

Stepping into the couple’s treatment room, I was instantly transported to a realm of tranquillity and rejuvenation. The high-tech amenities merged with the attentive care of the spa staff, creating an environment that catered to both modern sensibilities and traditional wellness practices. The ambience was perfect, allowing me and my partner to unwind and connect in a space that felt like a private retreat.

The massage experience itself was a masterpiece of relaxation and restoration. As I lay on the heated quartz sand massage bed, the gentle warmth enveloped me, melting away any lingering tension. The skilled hands of the therapists worked in harmony, blending techniques that ranged from soothing strokes to invigorating pressure points. With every movement, I felt a sense of release and renewal, as if my body and mind were being revitalised from within.

The hydrotherapy bath added an extra layer of luxury to the experience. The soothing waters embraced me, as I let go of stress and tension, allowing the healing properties of the water to work their magic. The synergy of warmth and water created a sense of profound relaxation, washing away the worries of the day and leaving me with a feeling of utter serenity.

Final Thoughts

Waldorf Astoria Dubai International Financial Centre: isn’t just a hotel; it’s a time capsule of vintage glamour that marries the iconic style of New York with a vibrant French Riviera-inspired rooftop pool bar.

Here, languid afternoons merge into immersive sessions of flotation therapy and rejuvenating spa rituals, elevating relaxation into an art form. The Bull & Bear steakhouse beckons with its culinary prowess, presenting plates of protein that are as much culinary creations as they are artistic masterpieces.

The Waldorf Astoria at DIFC isn’t merely a sum of its parts; it’s a symphony of experiences that beckons you to journey beyond the ordinary. From the classic design elements to the inviting rooftop, this establishment captures the essence of timeless charm, indulgence, comfort, and sophistication all feel alive and infectious here.

After a much-anticipated launch, the international hub that is Dubai now features in the esteemed Michelin Guide. And of course, this has brought some hot competition among the city’s finest eateries as they clamour for the coveted stars. 44 restaurants have recently been named by Michelin inspectors, with 14 awarded the Bib Gourmand restaurants. Nine restaurants received one Michelin Star and two have been given two stars. The guide went live on the 21st of June and we have a run-down of the Michelin-starred restaurants we think you should add to your Middle Eastern dining bucket list.

2 Star

Il Ristorante Niko Romito

Located in the Bvlgari hotel, this restaurant joined sister venues in Beijing, Shanghai and Milan. An Italian flair echoes its flagship property and extends beyond the design (it features a dramatic black ceiling and panoramic ocean views), into the dishes. Giacomo Amicucci is the resident chef, his past experience in the three Michelin Star restaurant Reale proving very useful in ensuring Il Ristorante Niko Romito received a two-star plaudit. Bread, a key tenant of the Abruzzan dinner table, always plays a key role here, while homemade pasta, fresh fish and fine meats make up the delectable Degustazione menu.

Stay by Yannick Alleno

This is the other recipient of Dubai’s two Michelin stars. The chief food genre at play here is French, but there are many other flavours incorporated from across the Middle East, the Mediterranean and Asia. Stay is found at the One & Only The Palm Hotel and while undoubtedly swish and conducive to a romantic date, is less formal than some of the others on our list. Order a spit-roasted John Dory for two, the blue lobster, langoustines and caviar, or the milk-fed lamb. Then complete your meal with an item from the Pastry Library (the millefeuille is divine).

1 Star

Hakkasan

No stranger to a Michelin star, this high-end chain was established in 2001. It now has 10 Cantonese restaurants worldwide, including this one in Dubai which has brought the third Hakkasan star. Executive Chef Andy Toh is at the helm, his traditional techniques creating contemporary results that celebrate dishes’ ingredients. The kitchen pays homage to many ancient recipes, paired with an artistic range of patisserie and a carefully crafted cocktail menu. This is set to a backdrop of opulent design by Christian Liaigre, using dark wood screens, powder blue upholstery and subtle lighting.

Ossiano

For a unique visual experience to accompany your gastronomy, book a table at Ossiano. This is the famous underwater restaurant at the aptly named Atlantis, The Palm hotel. It’s not actually underwater, but it certainly feels so, as you descend the glamorous lit staircase into a room, in which an entire wall takes the form of a glass aquarium filled with large fish. The rest of the venue displays typical Dubai grandeur, with glittering chandeliers, a glowing bar and a jazz pianist providing further ambience. Diners are served with courses as theatrical as the surroundings and ambiguously listed menus that offer a sense of surprise and adventure.

www.atlantis.com

Hoseki

Putting the Bvlgari hotel firmly on the Michelin map in Dubai, Hoseki marks another star in the property. An ultra-exclusive venue with just nine seats, its title translates as “gemstone” in Japanese. And it is a real minimalist gem, with fantastic views from its fourth-floor location. Serving lunch and dinner, no two meals at Hoseki are the same, because all are catered to the tastes of those present at this very special table. Enjoying the Omakase experience, diners savour the items served and interact with the chef, Masahiro Sugiyama. Naturally fresh fish and sushi are at the fore, with many ingredients coming straight from Japan.

www.bulgarihotels.com

Tasca by Jose Avillex

Bringing authentic Portuguese flavours to the heart of the Middle East, Tasca is the work of chef José Avillez. Try traditional dishes with a contemporary twist, such as fruits of the sea; giant red shrimp, codfish gomes de sá and blue lobster, or the chef’s Asian-influenced signature dish – avocado tempura. On the 6th floor of the Mandarin Oriental Jumeira hotel, the restaurant has a prime location overlooking beaches. Choose a table on the terrace overlooking an infinity pool, or sit in the dining room where you can watch the chefs at work in the open kitchen.

www.mandarinoriental.com

11 Woodfire

The clue to this restaurant’s USP is in its name. Most of the dishes here are cooked over an open fire – even some of the puddings receive the flame treatment. 11 Woodfire is the work of Akmal Anuar, in collaboration with Atelier House Hospitality and sits close to the Mercato Mall, with a stunning whitewashed outdoor terrace. Anuar is originally from Singapore but has seen great success in the UAE already; his culinary ethos displays a strong commitment to sustainability, with a primal approach to cooking, that’s packed with natural flavours. Do sample the Australian T-Bone steak, king crab and wagyu.

11woodfire.com

Torno Subito

Serving Italian food right beside the sea, this restaurant rocks a retro beachy vibe that’s reminiscent of the sun holidays of yesteryear. A huge wall mural depicts ladies wearing swim hats and bathing suits, the lighting is designed to look like halved vintage beach balls and oversized, colourful bold patterns create a funky riviera feel. But let’s not forget the food when entranced by this playful setting; executive chef Massimo Bottura (already the owner of a triple Michelin-starred restaurant in Italy) has crafted a menu reminiscent of his childhood, adding to the sense of immersion in this charming midcentury theme.

www.tornosubitodubai.com

Tresind Studio

An annexe to the fine dining Indian restaurant Trèsind, the Studio is more exclusive and adventurous, for those wishing to experience this internationally-renowned cuisine, on a more intimate level. It opened its doors in 2018 and only offers theatrical tasting menus, under the direction of chef Himanshu Saini. Expect drama along with the 16 courses, and an elegantly choreographed, truly immersive journey that’s full of surprises (be prepared to move around the restaurant). While the menu is set, the experience is bespoke, with great attention to detail ad a fantastic team ensuring your visit is unforgettable.

tresindstudio.com

Al Muntaha

Found on the 27th floor of the landmark ship-shaped Burj Al Arab Hotel (said to be the world’s only 7-star hotel), this restaurant boasts some awesome vistas. Indeed, its name translates as ‘the highest’ or ‘the ultimate’ reflecting its lofty status on the horizon and culinary credentials. The food here is refined, modern and French, the interior is ocean-inspired with a scales-like ceiling and colour palette of almost entirely blue and green. And the menus see a large amount of seafood, with lavish treats like oysters, beluga caviar and hand-dived scallops, which can all be washed down with a glass of champagne.

www.jumeirah.com

Armani Ristorante

We’ve certainly established that the city’s top hotels are home to many of its best restaurants. And the Armani property continues the trend, with its downtown Ristorante. Overlooking the Dubai Fountain, its terrace is a popular spot for those who enjoy people-watching over a meal. Smart and elegant, the Ristorante only opens in the evening, with a focus on very personalised service. Diners can choose from a tasting menu, or opt for a la carte dishes. The cooking style is modern and Italian, with lots of colour and high-quality ingredients. While sophisticated, this venue is ideal for those who prefer a simpler approach to food.

A head-raising, five-story atrium envelopes the Welcome Desk, a nod to desert fortresses and citadels of long ago. Golden trusses comprised of framed boxes sparkle throughout the space, representing different stages of modern construction in Dubai, a common sight of the ever-changing cityscape, and sit upon carpets that depict the island’s surrounding waters reflecting both construction and clouds. Completing the dramatic entrance is “The Soundwave” – a 6.5 ton, 30m long visual vector that represents a W sound wave. With 640 glass pieces, the towering fixture puts on a show of its own, illuminating in alternating intensities and colours to reflect the beats of the DJ in the neighbouring W Lounge.

The W Lounge is a stage to see and be seen and celebrates the city’s well-known love of opulence with several geometric fixtures that mimic the raw, natural form of gold. An artistic interpretation of a traditional fire pit sits in the centre of the W Lounge, signifying the bonfires that Bedouin tribes would gather around during their desert travels years ago. Connecting the W Lounge to the nearby VIP Lounge is a 13.5-metre sofa in muted earth tones, representing a desert mountain range – the skyscrapers of the past.

After checking in, guests can check out the incredible amenities of W Dubai – The Palm, including the hotel’s multiple pools that sit in a wave-like pattern in the centre of the Escape to form the W brand’s iconic WET® Deck experience directly facing a fabulous beach with views of the Dubai skyline. Here, guests can swim, soak up the sun and enjoy signature beverages while listening to live DJ performances.

The W brand’s signature AWAY® Spa invites guests to ‘Stroll in and Strut out’ offering ten treatment rooms, a steam room, sauna, experiential showers, a hammam and a couples’ suite. Guests are treated to a design inspired by the underwater perspective of a pearl diver, where iridescent shells reflect the sunlight that peeks through the ocean above. Relaxing, social and surreal, the space also features a Beauty Bar for touch-ups and ‘Quick Fix’ treatments. Lastly, guests can sweat it out at FIT (gym), which boasts state-of-the-art equipment overlooking the WET Deck, beach and skyline views, featuring abstract art inspired by the graceful forms of both jellyfish and the parachutes of adventure-seeking skydivers.

W Dubai – The Palm is set to infuse even more decadence into Dubai’s booming, multicultural culinary landscape with six beverage and food destinations. Translated as “I will be right back,” Torno Subito is the first restaurant outside of Italy by global culinary genius, Chef Massimo Bottura – whose Osteria Francescana has been feted as the “World’s Best Restaurant.” The new destination restaurant borrows the phrase from the signs that hang in closed store fronts along the Italian Riviera of Massimo’s childhood.

Pro snowboarder turned adrenaline-fueled culinary master Chef Akira Back brings his modern taste of Japanese cuisine prepared with a Korean essence to the Middle East for the first time at Akira Back. The entrance is marked by a vortex, meant to instantly transport guests to Back’s world. Inside, the design is inspired by “Wabi-Sabi,” the Japanese art of finding beauty in imperfection and acceptance of the natural progression of growth, life and death. The walls of Akira Back are accented with shattered porcelain intricately arranged in inlaid concrete patterns.

SoBe (short for South Beach) is an adults-only playground inspired by the eclectic and vibrant spirit of Miami. This is the only rooftop bar in Dubai where guests can watch the sun sink into the Arabian Sea with 360-degree views to watch as the Dubai skyline lights up each night. Serving up eclectic live DJ performances, imaginative cocktails, and even tattoo artists, there will be nothing else like it in the city.

Considering a trip to Dubai and in need of some top tips from someone who is really in the know? Then read on and discover more about this five-star destination in our interview with content creator and hotel aficionado Musbah Haddad.

Please tell us about yourself and where your love for Dubai originated.

My name is Musbah Haddad, better known with the nom de plume on social media platforms ‘iamhaddad’. I come from Damascus city in Syria. A hotel aficionado who chose Dubai, an affluent city that is home for international travellers and cosmopolitan society, to be abode for the past fourteen years. Being a long term resident in many five-star hotel apartments across Dubai made me adept at reviewing high-end hotels and properties while developing fondness and an affinity for luxury and lavish lifestyle. I have studied Software Engineering but not long that I discovered my love for photography and videography.

Dubai has extremely high standards when it comes to the luxury market, tell us more about your favourite places and how they deliver unabashed luxury.

Address Boulevard & Address Downtown in particular are my favourite places to spend my time at. They capture the city’s open-minded, cosmopolitan spirit while giving you a homey atmosphere by introducing the-first-of-its-kind concept ‘The Restaurant’. A creation of a labyrinth of rooms that feel like softly-lit cocoons, all entirely unique and built-in harmony with their astonishing natural surroundings. Tradition continues in service and sustenance. Staff dressed in smart attire offers renowned local hospitality. Seldom does a restaurant feel so comfortable, and yet so utterly sumptuous and luxurious: the waiters come and go as though they had wire-tapped our brainwaves, somehow appearing just when needed and floating away the same way. I am almost every other day there, either for a morsel in Bernardaud plate or simply a cup of coffee in a Wedgwood Fine Bone China cup. Talk about luxury.

Describe a typical day for you – if such a thing exists.

On weekdays I wake up around 6:30 in the morning, have my coffee then straight to the gym for a HIIT cardio on the treadmill. I then have breakfast, check my email and start editing some videos for clients. Later in the day I would hangout with my friend Yazan who shares the same passion for photography and videography. We would scout out for places to shoot while developing ideas for our Instagram content. Weekends are meant for hotel stays. It is not hyperbole if I said I feel home when I am a hotel.

What do you love most about being an ‘instagrammer’ ?

Sharing my love for hotels with people who have the same mindset. What you see on my Instagram page is my lifestyle with zero sophistry.

Why do you think people enjoy your content, what makes you stand out?

To be forthright, people enjoy my content simply because it is visually appealing with identity and character. My Instagram stories are always unique and well-curated. I wanted my Instagram to be a rarity among other instagram profiles: one you can leaf through enjoyably while getting transported to a world of unabashed luxury. I hope about time people would get to understand that investing in a quality content is long lasting and worthwhile. Passion, soul, creativity and sophistication are the main ingredients of @iamhaddad.

Where has been your favourite place to wake up to in Dubai so far and why?

I reminisce about the days when I used to be a resident at the World’s Tallest Tower, Burj Khalifa. My bedroom has enjoyed panoramic views of the Dubai Fountains and the skyline. As soon as the sun flare enters my field of vision, the to-do list in my mind slides away into nothing. And that is no embellishment.

Where is still on your travel to do list and what appeals so much about this place?

Alaska. Cannot stress enough on how much I love the cold weather. It might be paradox since I live in Dubai and all we have is summer all year round but I truly enjoy winter. Now from someone who does enjoy taking photos and footages I think it will be a great opportunity to capture the concentration of glaciers, energetic sled dogs, or simply going on a helicopter tour to capture the rare wildlife.

And finally if one of our readers is heading to Dubai what are your recommendations for must do things to do, places to eat and drink and places to stay at.
