Style

The design of University Arms was a collaboration between the renowned interior designer Martin Brudnizki and the legendary classical architect John Simpson.

Simpson is the nation’s foremost classical architect and has worked on extensive projects in Cambridge, including at Peterhouse and Gonville and Caius Colleges. He oversaw the hotel redevelopment, including the replacement of the building’s 1960s and ‘70s extensions with an attractive, classically designed front that is in-keeping with Cambridge’s better-known architectural heritage. The interiors are by Martin Brudnizki, one of Europe’s foremost leading interior architects whose past projects include Miami Soho Beach House, Scott’s, The Ivy and most recently the acclaimed Beekman in New York. University Arms was the first complete hotel project in the UK that will showcase Martin Brudnizki interiors from top to bottom. Throughout the design process, he has been mindful to create an environment reminiscent of school days past, lazy afternoons spent on the banks of the River Cam and the raucous revelry of students; truly a space for locals, tourists, Cambridge students and their families alike.

The hotel is quintessentially English and the literary and academic spirit of Cambridge is one of its defining characteristics.

Food and Drink

Inspired by the communal dining halls synonymous with Cambridge Colleges, Parker’s Tavern is the stand-alone restaurant at the hotel. The 132-cover restaurant is the brainchild of Chef Tristan Welch who has designed every dish to be a whimsical re-imagining of a British classic, sourced from field, fen and England’s seas. The locally sourced, seasonally changing menu is “as unpredictable as mother nature”.

Alongside the restaurant, Parker’s Tavern is also home to a 61-cover bar which acts as a social hub in Cambridge and offers an extensive drinks menu, including a cocktail menu focusing on botanicals. Perfect for guests to meet and unwind in the evening.

Not to be missed is the Parker’s Tavern Afternoon Tea, served in the hotel’s Library. The bookshelf walls, traditional timber panelling and original, wood-burning fireplace mean the Library is the perfect welcome for those searching for a cosy corner away from the hustle and bustle of Cambridge city life.

This Summer, Parker’s Tavern are launching ‘Parker’s On The Piece’ promising the same fun and indulgent dishes but al fresco style!

Facilities and Activities

The hotel concierge are on hand to help guests to enjoy an array of activities in the city. This Summer, there are plenty of fun outdoor activities to keep everyone entertained, including private walking tours of the ancient city of Cambridge, a visit to the Cambridge University Botanic Garden, which is just a 10- minute walk away from the hotel and of course, a private punting experience along the River Cam. Guests can even borrow a University Arms branded bike for a cycling trip and stop to enjoy a luxury Parker’s Tavern picnic lunch in a picturesque spot.
